 Post subject: Sheild/Super Strength tank

So board at work again seems like the perfect time to play about with some builds so here's my Sheild/SS tank

Original plan was to go for a very team orientated build and slot all (or almost all) attacks with taunt sets but it dawned on me pretty early on this was pretty stupid as its not playing to shields offencive strengths so that got chucked out the window toot sweet.

Primary I've chased +def for AOE, Melee and Ranged giving me a lovely grand total of 49.5, 48 and 48.5 while i could push these figure higher it seemed pointless as 45 the soft cap and anything past that is really just a wast.

after the defence came +recharge and +damage my aim with the recharge was to achieve anuff recharge to make active defence perma on a single recharge IO which I've managed with a hole 2 and a bit seconds to spare not a massive margin but should be good anuff rage is also lovely and perma not stacked tho which would have been nice but meh cant have it all i suppose maybe with excessive amounts of purple (ill try that next i think) speaking of rage that brings me nicely to damage the plan go's something like this gather mob cast melt armour (-Def -Res) follow up with shield charge and a foot stomp lots of dead mob :D and if by change anything still standing a good old KO blow should sort them out.

AV's will still be a pain but I'm hoping the huge chunk of HP and regeneration that ill have will help.

Ok have i missed anything or can i make it even better and even more scranky tanky?

doesnt seem to gain much and to start adding more purples has a negative effect on the builds defence which go's against the plan.

All in all probably not worth the added expense.

Mess,

Thinking that this is a team oriented build I suggest you minimise the number of single target attacks and get more support powers such as:

1) Hasten: Reducing the recharge time of Taunt to 5 seconds and I'd prefer Accuracy IO there instead of Taunt Duration, because the base duration of Taunt is already 40 seconds and it's better to hit the opponent successfully with it rather than increasing the Taunt Duration by 10 seconds with reduced chance to hit...

With Hasten you can also use your PBAoE powers faster, such as Foot Stomp (in every 5 seconds). Because, to be honest, no matter how high your damage is you'll never be the best single target damage dealer in teams, leave it to others while you successfully herd multiple enemy and give multiple damage in short durations.

Hasten would also make Active Defence perma no matter how much -recharge debuff you receive.

2) Try to add Leadership pool in your build. If I'm a squishy in a team, I really feel comfortable if I receive buffs, because anything counts really. For instance, I apply Increase Density with my Kin Corruptor on every teammate, but I still remain the weakest if there's no one to apply same type of buffs on me. Same goes to my Empath Controller. I know Leadership powers do not have any mez protection but it's still good to have some defence, accuracy and/or damage buffs.

For the same reason above I think you should also get Grant Cover power in your primary set.

3) Cheap Purple Sets to enhance your build: I'd do anything to include Absolute Amazement (Stun), Unbreakable Constraint (Hold) and Gravitational Anchor (Immobilise) purple sets in my builds, because they're cheaper than other purple sets and provide excellent set bonus. In your case, you can use G. Anchor with Ring of Fire. You can add, if you can, Hand Clap for A. Amazement and Char for U. Constraint. I know stun set can also be used with Jab but you slot that power to improve its damage and you are right there.

4) IO sets on Auto-Powers: True Grit for instance, you have 3 Aegis and 3 Numinas there, but what do you buff at the end: Recharge with 21% and End Discount for 71%, but this power is already auto and those buffs are not needed. I know those sets provide set bonus, but if you slot 3x Resistance IO and 3x Heal IOs (even 2x res and 2x heal to save slots) what you get is better than those set bonus.

I'd also use 3x Heal IOs on Health and 3x End Mod IOs on Stamina. Besides, Numina sets are extremely expensive these days.

5) This is my personal preference Mess, I go with Swift if I have Combat/Super Jump and with Hurdle if I have Super Speed to balance vertical/horizontal movement, but it's upto you...

Seeing all those powers in your sets, there's a lot potential to design an all-selfish, single target oriented, scrapper-like tanker and you should definitively try it as a second build with regular IOs :)...

Ok quick reply as I'm useing my phone and it's not the gretest thing to use for forum posts

I did consider doing this as a duel build one team and one solo however given the time it would take me to fully slot both builds to the point that they were up to the scrTch of this single build would just take to long as I quickly learned with my dark/ice team spesific tank teams aren't all that easy to get at my play times meaning that I forsee a fair a bit of soloing in the future the teamage will probably come from those nights that the GF is called out or is away so I have a good sold block of a few hours to grab a tf or 2 (this is also where the merits for the more expensive io's will come from)

I'm not keen on the leadership pools for tanks the benifits they give whenused by a tank don't seem worth the endurance they use

Much the same go's for hasten don't get me wrong the recharge boost it grands is vey nice but I've found the end crash can be a killer nothin worse than having your armours fall mid fight because hasten ran out

Also while I mind u only need to slot acc in taunt if your gona use it in pvp as in pve taunt is auto hit

I'll cheack out those cheep purple sets u mention not sure about hand clap it seems to be pretty much universily haited by teams or have I missed some usefullnes of it?

I've removed punch and added handclap for the stun purple set tho im not sure about takeing a power just so i can slot it with a set and not actually use the power

also slotted ring of fire with a purple set the recharge boost from these makes hasten even more unsisery :D

left the 3 numinias in health as betwen the 3 there and the 3 in true grit i get a better over all regeneration and HP boost than i would useing normal IOs

I've also replaced the agis as they had originally been in there to gain the AoE defence boost but as i ended up over the soft cap on that one they can safely come out and be replaced with standared IOs giving me a small boost to me resistance as well.
