After wincing my way through this I am convinced now that M. Night Shyamalan only ever had one good film in him, which was the "Sixth Sense", everything after that was either mediocre or all out BAD.

Unfortunately his take on the excellent "Avatar - The Last Airbender" series pushes even the boundaries of this term to its limits. I can only advise to stay the heck away from this one, it is certainly one of the worst films I have seen.

For me as a fan of the series it was painful to see how much beloved characters were mangled to the point where they could no longer be recognized, how entirely unsuitable people were cast, how all the humor was sucked out of the story leaving a dried-up husk of the charming original series.

And the names - what on earth were they thinking? Getting names wrong in a film based on a Japanese Anime would still be annoying, but remotely understandable. But the original here is bloody AMERICAN! I cannot for the life of me imagine how this could have happened.

But even if you know nothing about the series, you will hate this film - Ebon is living proof of that. With it's disjointed "plot" that is really all over the place, lack of any sense of fun or epic and above all the appalling dialog it stands out as a singularly sloppy piece of film-making.

"I am leaving."
"I am going with her."
"I am staying."
(Which is exactly what you see on screen!)

If you got the impression that I hated this film, you are mistaken. I LOATHE this utterly terrible waste of time with a passion. Never has this rating been more deserved:

*still fuming*

BTW The director says that he never knew this series and only made the film because his daughter loves the series and told him how great it was. One can only assume that the poor child was kicking herself for not shutting up once she saw what daddy dearest did to it!

Wow i am very surprised to hear that this is so bad. I'm gutted actually because the trailer that i saw last week for it in 3D looked spectacular. Amazing special effects. I really wanted to see it, but now i think i would rather watch StepUp 3D again lol. I took Jasmine to see StepUp last week and it was surprisingly pleasant to sit through :D

I've got some more cinema tickets to use up this week so we're wondering what to see now....Karate Kid maybe. :?

Karate Kid is good, definitely better than I feared it might be, the original having been part of those fond youthful memories.

It's certainly infinitely better than Airbender *shudders*
